The competition will be held at the Rakaia Domain, which is located about 1 KM from the Rakaia township.
Rakaia is a small rural town situated on the South bank of the mighty Rakaia river. It's roughly halfway between Christchurch and Ashburton, and is a good gateway to the Canterbury foothills or further afield to the Timaru, the Mackenzie country and beyond.
Rakaia bosts a petrol station, two pubs, two Four Square supermarkets, a fish and chip shop, cafes, and a few farming stores. There is a campground and accommodation available at the hotels.
Rakaia is widely known as the "Salmon Capital" of New Zealand due to the salmon and trout able to be caught in the Rakaia River. The wide braided river bed offers some of the best jet boating opportunities in the world and the land that borders the river is known as being fertile productive land.
There are various accommodation options available in the local area. Suggestions include Ashburton, Methven, Leeston, Rolleston, Christchurch, Darfield. See further suggestions and links here.
